American Renaissance Revival Burled Walnut and Walnut Roll-Top Desk, with rotary pedestals, fourth quarter 19th century, retaining the brass plaque "The Shannon Co. Limited, Shannon Desk, London, Made in America", By the late 1880's furniture was the leading exported item from the US.

The desk with an S-curve tambour door that rolls to reveal a beautifully fitted interior and the writing surface with an inset gilt-tooled leather top, over a band of three drawers. Each pedestal with a rotary section opening to reveal paired banks of four drawers, the front, sides and back of the desk is fitted with burled walnut panels, h. 47", w. 60", d. 34-1/2".

The rotary pedestals are similar to those employed by Shannon's competition, the Wooten Desk Company. The firm's extensive use of lacewood as an interior wood is an indication of the firm's adaptation to the tastes of the English market.

Important furniture of 19th century America.
